About Artist

Choo Li Wei Lewis

Lewis (b. 1990) is an emerging artist, trained in mechatronics, sculpture, and woodblock (carving and printing). Chinese and Japanese historical culture and folktales anchor Choo’s work as human and animal depictions are used to unpack themes of morality, human behavior, and social beliefs/practices.

Through the use of modern technologies coupled with traditional practices, Choo questions our role and relationship to contemporary issues that exist in our society today.

Choo has won several awards including the Ireland Funds Scholarship (2018), International TAKIFUJI Art 39th Award (2018), Lasalle Academic Excellence Award (2018), and Lasalle Scholarship (2017).
